Butler County Community College (BC3), chartered in 1965, is the first community college in Western Pennsylvania. It offers 40 associate degree and 20 certificate or workplace certificate programs in business & information technology, education & behavioral sciences, health care, liberal arts and STEM. An estimated 575 students earn college credits in BC3’s high school programming. Approximately 20,000 people participate annually in non-credit business and industry training and in public safety training, lifelong learning opportunities and professional development courses. Information for Transfer In Students

  • Accepts Transfers:
    Students may receive credit for graded courses taken at most accredited, degree-granting institutions. Transfer of credits are reviewed by Records and Registration in consultation with the V.P. for Academic Affairs and appropriate academic deans.
  • Transfer Applications Accepted:
    Butler County Community College has an open admissions policy accepting students who have a high school diploma, GED/HiSET scores, or the ability to benefit from a post-secondary education.
  • Percentage Accepted:
    Butler County Community College has an open admissions policy accepting students who have a high school diploma, GED/HiSET scores, or the ability to benefit. Five programs in the Shaffer School of Nursing & Allied Health are considered selective.

  • Technical/Vocation Credit Accepted:
    BC3 awards credits through SOAR (Students Occupationally and Academically Ready) and has established various individual articulation agreements with local career and technical centers.
  • Credit For Life Experience:
    BC3 accepts credit for life experience for work, volunteer, military, or training. A e-portfolio showing the student has met course objectives is required and $150 evaluation fee. Please contact registration@bc3.edu for more information.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    Only applicable for those applying to the selective admissions programs of Massage Therapy, Nursing, RN, Practical Nursing, Physical Therapist Assistant, or Radiologic Technology. Contact the Admissions Office at admissions@bc3.edu or 724-284-8501 for more information.
  • Official Transcripts:
    Official high school transcripts or GED/HiSET test scores are required of all applicants. Students who have attended another post-secondary institution are required to submit their official transcript(s) for evaluation by Admissions & Records.
  • SAT Scores:
    Not required, but may exempt a student from placement testing. Must provide proof of score from high school, College Board, or ACT. 500 or better - SAT Math and/or Evidence Based Reading and Writing 21 or better - ACT English 23 or better - ACT Math
  • Letters of Recommendation:
    Not required
  • Essay:
    Not required
  • Application Fee:
    $25.00, but waived at events or for those who can prove financial hardship.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    For courses to be accepted in transfer, they must be listed on a college transcript with a grade of A, B, or C. One D may be accepted if approved by the Provost and V.P. for Academic Affairs
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    A maximum of 45 credits may be transferred in to BC3 toward an Associate Degree and 15 credits toward a Certificate.
